Artist’s Statement
Trixie’s artwork beautifully intertwines female figures with flowers and animals, imbuing her creations with rich symbolism that invites a multitude of interpretations. Her work also mirrors her deep appreciation for the serene and natural elements that exist beyond the constraints of time. When asked to describe her painting and series, artist Trixie Tan narrates: “As my mother’s garden slowly faded away with her passing, there was one survivor, an orchid that continued to bloom without care. I’ve created delves into themes of female anatomy, botanicals, and animals. In this series, I’ve used botanical elements to symbolise the human body and its intricate organs. It’s a tribute to the love my mother shared with me and her cherished garden. It’s a poignant reminder of her battle with uterine cancer, a cruel irony that the very part of the human body responsible for creating life became the cause of her demise. Since then, I’ve been keenly observing the changes that occur in the human body. The complexity and resilience of our bodies have been a profound source of inspiration for this series. It’s incredible how tiny organs play pivotal roles in shaping human life. However, my focus isn’t on the end of life but on exploring the vitality of existence, particularly in the present moment, where youth, maturity, and beauty intersect.”
